guitarlust

I've always wanted to learn how to play the guitar since forever. I think it started from my friends. But then it became more than that because most of my favourite songs are guitar-oriented (is there such thing?). And I think it's really great if I could play my favourite songs by myself. I mean, actually listening to yourself playing the songs you love is just... gah! I want to buy a guitar actually. But I've spent so much on stuff lately that I'm pushing it back for now. And one thing, I don't want to invest on a guitar and can't find somebody to teach me. haha. I mean, I still have my old piano and I haven't played on it for years! So I never really brought up the subject of learning how to play a guitar out of guilt that my mother will berate me on how much she spend on that damn piano.

I think if I do want to own one, I'll buy it myself. Makes it more special, you know? :)

Anyway, in this post, I am going to list down all the songs I wish I could play on a guitar. Maybe one day I will. And this kinda list usually makes me feel better (points to post below). Hence:

1) Yellow by Coldplay
I think this is one of the first songs that I really really wish I could play. Look, I've always wanted to play a Coldplay song - piano or guitar. However, most of Coldplay songs are really piano-oriented. Except this song. I've heard it on acoustic guitar once and it was so gorgeous! Saya mahu. I think I wanted to play this song since I was... thirteen? Cita-cita lama.

2) You Give Me Something by James Morrison
LIKE HELLO. His voice makes me want to cry. haha! The first time I heard it on acoustic guitar was actually from my bestie Gg. I think it's her favourite song way back even before I've heard of him! She played this song once or twice at somebody's houseparty and I really fell in love with it. And of course, the fact I'm in love with the man himself helps. haha.

3) Deeper Conversations by Yuna
Duh. Of course, I like 'Blue Sands' better but I'm not sure that you can play that song on guitar.

4) Wreck of the Day by Anna Nalick
Emotional. Depressing. You know I like this kinda thing. haha! But yes, I think it means much more on the personal level. At one point, I listen to this song almost everyday because I was going through... something.

5) Telescope Eyes by Eisley
I love love love this song. The only time I actually heard somebody play this song was during my Form 5. There was this dinner in my school but I can't remember what it was called. Sumbangsih? Ye ke?? GUYS, DO YOU REMEMBER IT?? MEMORRIIEESSS. hahaha. We were hanging around during the rehearsal and this junior of mine played this song. Me and Farisa gasped like mad because we never thought anyone else actually knew this song. haha. I heard it recently on Youtube and I hate what they did to it! They speed up the tempo of the song so it sounds kinda weird to me. Hmph.

6) Kau Ilhamku by Manbai
I've always believed that this song is one of all-time awesome Malay songs ever. Nothing could beat this. This song reminds me of this one time when we were heading home from Utara (meaning possibly Terengganu or something but my mum always call it just 'Utara' because we tend to visit a lot of states there), and we were playing this song non-stop. It was perfect because it was actually around 3 AM and we were riding on those dark highways and we could see all the stars illuminating the night. The fact that we were in darkness made the stars even more visible; like diamonds, dotting on every canvas space in the sky. Beribu bintang indeed.

7) Coffee and TV by Blur
Because it sounds fun. :)

8) Creep by Radiohead
I don't think this needs any explanation.

9) Banana Pancakes by Jack Johnson
Or anything JJ honestly. His songs are so much fun and it's the type songs you just want to chill and play and frolick in the sun. ;)

10) Come Down by Eskimo Joe
His voice is so zexy here. haha. I swear, I love this song because of his voice. Grrr. hahahaa! And in a way, I like the meaning of this song. And... I just like this songlah!

11) Bila Aku Jatuh Cinta by Nidji
I heard a cover by a couple of Indonesian kids and it was so sedap. It was really good. And I love this song. It's one of those type of songs that makes you want to fall in love just so you can understand this song.

12) Wonderwall by Oasis

13) My Happiness by Powderfingers
This is an Australian band. I used to hear this song a lot during the times I have to commute to Subang from Kajang to go to school. The radio had always play this song at that time and I always try to catch the title and the singer of this song. I only managed to catch the DJ saying 'fingers' and I thought it was Butterfingers at first! haha. Years passed and a few months back, I was checking out my roomie's phone to exchange songs when I stumble into this song, finally! So, I'm a happy bugger. :D haha. And I think this song is fun to sing aloud to.

14) Somewhere Over The Rainbow
A few backs American Idol's Jason Castro did a cover on this song on his ukelele and I loved it.

There's possibly more but it's all I can think of right now. I know some of them are really really hard... but a girl can dream right? I BELIEVE! haha.

Hey, you want to know the good news? Literally all of the songs you listed down are not that hard to learn, in fact, an hour or two is all you need to learn ALMOST ALL the songs you listed! Just that Kau Ilhamku, Banana Pancakes and Somewhere Over the Rainbow would need a bit of time, but none of the stuff you listed is impossible.

Hmm 'Blue Sands' on guitar? It's possible, maybe I should do a cover of that!

And hey, a lot of people can help teach you, most of your friends play it, right? I can teach too, lol.

Ok ok, I'm spamming I guess, better get back to recording stuff and working on this cover of Lionel Richie...
