down memory lane

This is a special blog post.

Why? Because in this post, I'm going to detail all the, well, details of how I first met some of my friends. I've done this before - you can look here if you wanna know how I first get to know Miza, Farisa, Diana, Gg, Shameen, Tasnim and Ainul! Well, today, it's the guy's turn! Seriously, most of the guys I've befriended along the years are just because. Like, I friended them because one of my friends are friends of them. So, it kinda started out with obligation... haha. But nah, I really love them! Honest! Ok, let's start...

azfar

Five years back, man. Five freaking years. Was it that long ago? I still remember us singing to Sugababes' song 'Round round' and Nabilah's obsession with Avril Lavigne. Anyway, to tell you the truth, I never actually wanted to befriend Azfar. Ok, that sounds just bad. haha. But Azzy isn't the friendliest person on Earth and at 12, so was I. Besides, I was sitting at the back of the class while Azfar the nerd sat gobsmacked at the front. With such geographical distance, how will we ever meet? haha. Anyway, the only reason we've become friends were because my other friend, Rabiatul were friends with him. So... I figured, what the hey, you know? haha. Like I said, an obligation. Now Azzy, don't get mad at me. Oh, like you were dying to be my friend too!

We weren't as close then like now. There was even a period where we're not even friends. No, it's not that we fought.. we just drifted apart. That was in form 2 when our friendship was nonexistent. Oh you know, different classes, different cliques, different blocks. I did try to make it work again but it was pointless. I actually was convinced he hated me somehow. I kinda forgot about his shyness, I guess. Then BAM! Form 4 same class again. haha. Then all hell's break loose and that's where we are now. Hmm, there are times when I wonder if the friendship hiatus in Form 2 could happen again... There was an interesting part though!

Back in Form 1, we used to sit with each other at Sejarah or Seni classes. Anyway, there was this teacher called Cikgu Yaziz. Seriously, I don't know how the heck he becomes a teacher! SO - NOT - QUALIFIED. Anyway, what this teacher did though - he always teased us because he thought we were a couple. GASP. Can't a boy and a girl sit together without arousing suspicions?? haha. At that age, we were mortified. But if it happens now, I think we would just play along. muahah. To be honest, those awkward classes with Cikgu Yaziz was the only thing closest to romance in this relationship! haha.

shafiq

Funnily enough, Shafiq was in the same class as Azfar and me back in Form 1. But unlike Azfar, I was never his friend in 2002. I don't know. He was damn talkative though. Like bla bla bla 24/7 - way worse than now. But even though he blabs alot, he's not exactly friendly. Yeah weird combination. He just hangs out with Hijaz and that Indian guy whose name escapes me. And oh yeah, he has a wild temper back then. YES. SHAFIQ. THE SAME ONE. Yeah, his temper is practically non-existent nowadays. I seriously can't remember the last time he ever got mad at me though I can name thousands of reasons for him to be pissed at me.

At form 2, he was nonexistent. haha!

At form 3? That's when I noticed he existed still. Or you know, still under the same school. I was waiting for Farisa one day - this was Pre-Shahrul era when we walk together after school - after the bell rang, when suddenly, this guy came out of her class. It was this tall, thin and superlanky guy and I'm like, who the hell?? Then I looked at his name tag - Indera Shafiq? That sounds so familiar.. OH MAH GAWD. Yeah... Shafiq was the type of guy when he went through puberty, he really WENT through it. haha.

And even then, we weren't friends! We only became friends at Form 4. Two years if you think about it and yet I feel as though I know him more than other people I've known for years. Odd eh? To tell you the truth, I don't even know how our friendship survived. We've hit every rough patch there is and honestly, I am amazed that we could actually still see eye to eye nowadays. Yeah, it was that bad. But I don't know. It's like neither of us want to give up just yet. :)

aiman

Oh, Aiman and me go WAAAY BACK. Back to good ol' primary school. Standard 5. He was a PTS student same as me. That was our troublemaker period. Oh yes, we are such a pain in the ass for the teachers but we're the boring type, honestly. We're not really troublemakers - just the don't-do-homework-don't-do -nothing type. haha. Every single day, Calvyn's mum - yes, her! yes, Calvyn! - would single us out and drumrolls please... no homework done! Seriously, I am amazed how I fail to finish my homework all the time. If you don't believe me, ask Diana because she was our Ketua Darjah! haha! Anyway, I made us sound like Bonnie & Clyde but it wasn't like that. We weren't even on speaking terms, for god's sakes - and we sit next to each other! Now, me and Aiman always look back on that year and laugh. I mean, we sit next to each other every freaking day but we never talked to each other. NEVER. Not even talking about the weather! And then, I went to the prom with him. HAHHA. Omg, who would've actually seen this!

If somebody, an angel or something, would come down to me and Aiman when we were 10 year olds and told us that we're gonna be each other's prom dates, I would think that the angel thing was on crack! haha. No way! Then, time proved us wrong.

Standard 6, didn't know didn't care. Ditto for Form 1, Form 2 and Form 3. Well, in Form 3 there was a rumour going on that he liked Nik Azila but he later told me that was false. Anyway, even in Form 4, I've only became friends with him in the middle of the year. Aiman is not very talkative. I mean, he talks but not much. I don't know - shy doesn't really fit him now. But he just... doesn't talk much! Ok, I don't know how to explain it. And yeah, at that time, I've always thought of him as just Shafiq's sidekick. Sorry Aiman! I didn't know you well so you can't really blame me! Besides, Shafiq is like a live circus show so it really doesn't help me to notice Aiman. At form 5, that's when I get to know him - like really know him. Aiman is actually a very complex and multifaceted person.

He will surprise you, I can grant you that.

shahrul

The only reason I've friended him was because Farisa has the sinful hot LUST for this guy. haha! I know he was the real deal when dear Farisa was actually embarassed to tell me that she has the hots for this guy. Farisa is the type of girl who has 5 simultaneous crushes and would actually yell out loud about it! And yet, with Shahrul... So yes, I was a determined matchmaker! If you talked to Shahrul online - he was this loudmouth ass that makes you laugh like crazy. But if you see him in reality, he's actually very quiet. For those early days, I wondered if he thought I was weird because he didn't seem too hyper seeing me in school. Well, it didn't take long before I realised he was only hyper on the net! haha. But if you're close buds with this guy, he's just as nutty as he is online. Yeah, it's really fun to hang out with him actually.

Shahrul has to be one of the hottest guy friends I have. haha! He is! I can't remember the countless of times when some girl gushed how cute he was - pre and during-Farisa ok! Yes, so I'm proud to be his friend so I can show off to people how good-looking my friends are. haha. Am weird. Hmmm, not much history here since we've only known each other since Form 3. I mean, I didn't even know he exist before that! So, kudos to Farisa!

fawwaz

Fawwaz was famous since way back because he was pretty much of a hottie. haha. If he reads this, he will go 'SHUTUP ATIKAH'. Just like the way Gg reacts. muaha. Anyway, I knew him since Standard 6 because we were in the same class. But I think I would know him even without being in Standard 6. Guys worshipped him! You could see that everyone just follows him and do what he does. He's like the leader of the pack. Everybody knows Fawwaz.

And oh my god, he was such a pain in the ass.

Yes, G, your boyfriend was - note the term 'was'! - an ASS. I hated him back in Standard 6! I actually wanted to kick him because he was just... GARH! Since he was just 12 and basically, was just a kid, so his naughtiness is understandable. C'mon, even he admitted he was pain in the ass so I'm not exaggerating here. In Form 1, not exactly friends but still knew him because every other girl I know wants to be in his pants. Not. Kidding. Form 2 was the time when we actually became pretty close. We went to the same tuitions together and we had the same friends. And oh yeah, there's that thing when our lives were like a gossip tabloid. Hmmm... My best friend used to have an earth-size crush on this guy so the world seemed to revolve on us. So, that's how me and Fawwaz became close friends. Because we're both are like characters from a teenage soap opera.

Anyway, even though Fawwaz is so the hot muffin that he is, he doesn't seem to be interested in any girl. I honestly thought he was some sort of an asexual or something. This was in Form 3. Then of course, came Gg. And what do you know, she's an asexual too! HAHHA. I'm evil. So, Fawwaz is uninterested and Gg is uninterested but when you bring them together, it's like somebody switched on a switch! HOT LURVE BABEYH. haha. So that was how we see Fawwaz the Friend to Fawwaz the Boyfriend. Fawwaz is honestly hands down the most eligible guy I've ever met. Nice, smart and a whole lotta good qualities. Seriously, Geeg is one lucky girl. ;P

mahfuz

Aah... Mahfuz. What can I tell you about Mahfuz? I only knew him since Form 4. He was a new kid from Seafield. I still remembered his face when he first came to class. He looked sad and confused. To tell you the truth, Mahfuz is the sort of person that I wouldn't befriend with if he wasn't in the same class with me. But Mahfuz also has this sort of quality about him that actually redeems him. In fact, if I told my mom about him and his... habits, my mom would probably tell me to stop being his friend.

The thing about Mahfuz is that he is really nice. He is! And he is the type of friend that has boundless loyalty. If he likes you and takes you as friend, he will stick to you through thick and thin! And unlike other people who just pretends to care for the sake of doing it, he actually does care. I know countless of times when he proved this. So, that's why I'm glad that I gave myself a chance to get to know him before I make judgements . I can't exactly remember the point where he became A Good Friend than just A Friend or Classmate really. But we had pretty good times! The time when me and my sister gave him a ride home because it was raining buckets in Subang! Or the hundred times when he asked me whether I wanted to marry him! hahah! Meh, the guy is nuts!

You know, the camp at FRIM? I actually pushed him to go. I think it's because his dad won't let him or something like that. Because what would 5 Gamma be without Mahfuz?? I rest my case!

How did I know him? He was Farisa's neighbour and best friend! So, even though we weren't friends, I already know he existed. We just weren't friends. It's just the getting to know him part took a longer time. I think it was Form 4 because of YEP. You know when I think about YEP and how religious we are about it, it's crazy! I actually got back at 5 on some days! 5! How beyond nuts is that!

So, while doing labour work in YEP, that's when I get to know him. He was very good with his hands... haha, not like that you perve! His work is always neat and everything so he always redo mine. haha. And there's something easy about Shahir. I think because he smiles a lot so I felt alright with him. For some reason also, we both clicked instantly. I don't know. I think we have a few things in common and we both like to talk crap alot. So that helps. :) We both loved music so we can bond on that.

Yeah, I make him sound like a saint but to be honest, he is an ass. haha. He always freaking teases me though honestly, I think all guy friends do that to me. My sad tale. He's also a genius. Straight A's baby! Anyway, he just got back from NS so he is all buff now! haha. Actually, I'm not exactly sure about thatlah... Being friends with Shahir is one of those little pleasant surprises that you find along the way in life!
