heroes: nidji
Months back, I went to Padang in Indonesia for a week.
I really enjoyed that trip. I did a lot of new things in that trip, for a start, got my five minutes of fame on Indonesian television. haha. Yes, reread that line again if you don't believe me. On the third day of the trip, I went to a convention of my mother's company. So, I was basically part of my mum's company. We had a booth going on and flyers and products. My mum's company sells marine life health products. So. Yeah. Anyway, it was a big convention in University Andalus and what dya know, the mayor is in the building! The funny thing was that my sister made me read this brochure so that I won't embarass them by being clueless.
Easy-peasy right?
Well, guess what? Maybe a twist of fate or just cruel irony, by the time the mayor of the town came to our booth, I was completely on my own. Can you imagine that! There's like this mayor's entourage circling around the booth, there were cameraman sticking their bigass cameras in my face, the mayor himself was picking up our products here and there - AND I WAS COMPLETELY BY MYSELF. I don't know where the hell my mother and my sister went! I panicked like crazy. I mean I can't ditch the booth to go search for them so... Suddenly this camera guy tapped me on the shoulder and told me to explain everything - infront of the freaking camera.
So, what did I do? I took out a product, smile my best smile and try to do the best MTV personality I know! hahaha.
Yeah. It was just under 2 minutes or something but you know what they say, it felt like a lifetime. The worst thing was that I did not have a stick of make up on my face. It was eight in the morning ok! I was groggy and sleepy and I didn't think I was going to be interviewed or anything like that!
Anyway, that's part of my experiencein Padang. Another is riding a horse ride called 'benji' or something like that. Ate tons and tons of nasi padang. Seriously, I can't look at nasi padang anymore without feeling like I need to puke. Loads of shopping! haha.
One thing I love about Indonesia is that their CDs and DVDs are damn cheap. Dirt cheap, I tell you. The fake ones are obviously cheap-ass but even the original ones are cheap! I bought 3 original CDs and it all amounts to 30 ringgit only. In Malaysia, one CD itself is 40 plus! Unfortch, the original CDs are usually from Indon singers... usually the international ones are in cassette format and I don't buy cassettes. When it comes to music CDs, I buy original. I mean what's the point of buying fakes? Why not just download them! I only buy them when I really like the band or singer. So, it'll be like a part of my collection.
Wow, this post is getting longer than it should be.
Ok, the main reason of this post is this: Nidji.
I love Nidji. I do. And it was because of the Padang trip. We had a driver then to drive us around and he always plays Nidji. Funny thing is that he's around 50 years old! haha! In fact, we end up talking about Indonesian music at one point! He told me which bands are nice and which CDs are worthy to buy. I just realised that the bands Radja and Ratu actually means King and Queen literally! That's why my driver said they usually perform together! D'oh! So, while cruising through Padang, I fell in love with this Nidji song, 'Hapus Aku'. And so, I bought their CD, 'Breakthru' and was a happy fan since then...
I never told anyone because well... I know this is gonna sound dumb... but I felt a tad embarassed. haha! Well, I always tease Diana that she is our resident Indon Fan. And Indon songs aren't usually my cup of tea. So. YEAH, I LIKE NIDJI SO WHAT. But I really like them. Do you know that they came to Malaysia last March? 27th March and I so wanted to go. I was dying to go. It was a small concert in a club. Yes, in a CLUB. You know what that means. It means I'm fucking underaged and I can't go!!! GOD, I HATE THE AGE LIMIT. Yeah, so I missed my only chance to watch Nidji live because I am a year younger. Pfft.
Then came Heroes.
I was watching one of the show's commercial one day and then I heard the song. I was like, meh, why is this song so familiar... OMG WTF IS THAT NIDJI?!?! NIDJI ON HEROES? ON FREAKING HEROES?? NIDJI?? It's like having two of my favourite things combined in one. And like I'm not obsessed with Heroes enough! And like I'm not obsessed with Nidji enough!
I showed the commercial to my sister and she also went, OMG WTF IS THAT NIDJI?!?! And for some reason, we were proud. I have no idea why either since we're not exactly Indonesians but I guess it's fair since we're fans. I remember cruising on the hills of Padang and my sister bugging me about listening to 'Heaven' on my discman (this was my pre-iPod era). And plus, this is an achievement for us South East Asian folks! Yeah yeah yeah. I know. I'll shut up now.
So, one day, a good friend of mine named Shahrul wanted the song 'Heaven'. And I figured, heck, why not just post up the song on my blog for other people to download too? So here it is:
Hopefully you guys know how to use yousendit. This is for Shahrul and those other people who wants this song. Download quickly because it only lasts for 7 days! Enjoy!
