Sepet
I've watched it. And loving it. It's so... different from all the crap movies our country is churning out. Viewers be warned: Not for the people who thinks Erra Fazira's movies are the coolest things ever. Her movies suck, ok? They make me cringe whenever I see her in another new movie. Potret Mistik? What the fuck?! She's obviously in for the money - only. I can't believe that 'Cinta Kolestrol' and 'I Know What You Did Last Raya' was directed by a proffesor (I think). Producers - quit destroying Malaysian's movie scene by producing shitty movies like that. Capeesh?
Anyway, anyway, the movie is very very - how do I say this? - artsy? Photogenic? Cinematic? God, I don't know what's the word. It's like, you know the director took her time to consider which angle she should take. Unlike some other movies, people would just put the camera at a corner and we'd be staring at the same wall for a whole 15 minutes.
The movie is funny, too. Not the stupid pie-in-face funny. The director directs the Petronas commercials. So, you know they're funny. And it's very Malaysian, ya know, despite that there isn't any Indians in it. Sorry peeps. And surprisingly, innuendos galore! Very coy, indeed. Except for that one scene where you get to see a brief peek of an underwear worn by . . . never mind.
This movie almost brought out my naive dream of being a movie director. Yeah, I wanted to be one - wanted - past tense. Why would you think I'm so hot about those crap Malay movies anyway? But of course, my mum shot the idea down before I can do anything about it. She didn't exactly yell no to me or anything. But she puts down obvious points that this ambition is just not goody. First things first, it's just a road to sin city. Women are not suppose to act in movies - it's considered sinful because of the scenes or the revealing clothes(but people do it anyway). And, it's just... a movie is never holy or decent. Hell, I know mine wouldn't be. And encouraging that is considered not good. I'm not religious or anything but she has a point there. And knowing myself, I know I would never settle with a B-rate screenplay. Conflicts sell and the more scandalous it is, the better.
So, no, I don't think so. I do not want to be damned in hell. It's hard to explain and I'm terrible at explaining this. But then again, it's my culture and everything. I guess I didn't have that much determination to begin with. I don't know...
Anyhue! The movie is great. Can be quite at the draggy side but if you're fine with that, it'll be a smooth sailing. Love the ending. It's perfect. The Chinese guy is kinda cute... Sigh... Love the part of his friend's chasing scene. Adores it!
