me? a copywriter? O RLY?

So, last few mornings, I went to the copywriter workshop and IT WAS FUN.

Well, it's oklah. But it's a better morning than spending going online right? It beats going online! So, yes, immense of fun. And it's in Bangsar. And we've haven't done this whole workshop thingy for eons. And I haven't seen some of my friends for ages. And it's a leap of faith! So, it's all good.

Yes, indeed. It was a leap of faith. I mean, I only found out from the Internet for God's sakes. I don't even know how good is it or what. And I wanna thank Miza, Diana and Farisa for teman-ing me! I love you all! Since it's so last minute and middle of nowhere-ish. I will do this again! haha. Sorry darlings. But you know me and my charm... haha. Yeah, I'm crapping but whatever!

So, the day started early. I woke up around 6 something and bathed. Yeah, I know, amazing feat. Then drive drive drive to Bangsar with Daddy. And a question? Isn't 95% Training Academy is about advertisements and all? SO HOW COME THEY DON'T HAVE A FREAKING BILLBOARD? I almost got lost! There was just a laminated card outside the door with their names. Thank God my dad used to work around the place so he knows we're at the right track. Anyway, met up with Diana, Farisa and Miza and we had a bried b'fast and onto the COPYWRITER WORKSHOP.

I have a crush on Chris. :)

Chris is this guy who works there. He's so adorable. Like a teddy bear. He has the cutest smile and all-around good-natured guy. Really! Me and Farisa was probably high from the morning shower or something and we were so not making sense okay! We were like high or something and cracking up every 3 minutes. But he just laughs and smiles that adorable smile and says 'okay cool!' a million of times. NYAAHH. Then we met this Indonesian Intern girl who is really shy and I kinda forgot her name. Rawa or R-something. Meh, I'm so bad. But she seems nice.

Anyway, as the warm-up to our brain, we were told to write a short paragraph about our hobbies. It said there to make 'them' interested in our hobbies. Sort of like an advertising testlah. So! What did I do? I thought about reading. Boring. Onlining. Boring. Baking. Hell yeah, liar you. Then, Chris was like, any hobbies! What have you been doing since your holiday?

And I was like, BREATHING.

And that was what my essay about. Breathing as my hobby. I'm not kidding. I didn't think they were gonna read it in class, for God's sakes! I was high from the morning shower!

It started something like this:

I promote breathing. Breathing is an accidental and purposeful hobby. bla bla bla. After I left high school to further my studies, I have been just breathing. bla bla bla. I have now mastered the art of breathing. Next, I am going to learn the art of breathing underwater. Everybody needs their dose of oxygen! bla bla bla. So, everybody should stop their other mundane hobbies and start enjoying breathing to learn the value and joy of bottomless time.

Can you just taste the sarcasm? The bla bla bla parts are where I forgot what I wrote. Seriously, who the hell needs bottomless time? NOT ME. But one of the speakers, Janet, loved it because she thinks it's creative of me to do breathing. So yeah, I'm patting myself at the back for being creative and well, a little nuts. haha.

Anyway - I'm jumping around here - Viktor Krum attended the workshop! HAHA. Not kidding wei! Ok, Krum is bigger than him and has the moustache and all. But he's the closest person to Krum I've ever met. An Iranian guy. Hmm. Interesting eye candy. Nice tousled brown hair. Quite good built. Sweet smile. Foreigner. haha. Unfortunately, just like Krum, his English is much to be desired. He's a Lim Kok Wing student studying English. So... yeah, couldn't understand a word he said most of the time. But he was wearing PINK. You know I can't resist men in pink! Garh! But if you knew me well, you know I prefer a lean blondie Seeker than a buff Bulgarian dude right? So there.

He was with this girl. Don't know her name either. But Miza said her shirt was from Topshop. And I am impressed. Topshop is one of the shops that puzzles me. I mean, their clothes are nice but they're too quirky that they don't fit with the rest of my wardrobe. There were two other Chinese guys, one of them reminds me of Jonnie for some reason.

And hello, met this one Chinese dude. He's an IT geek. I know it's mean to call people geeks but it's true. There is no other definition for him. Pants up high. Glasses. Shirt with crazy abstracts on it. And he's scary as hell. Why scary? Because he's like this dynamite without a fuse. It can explode anytime anywhere without you even knowing why or how! Yeah so, I was scared of him actually. haha. And he has this tendency to say innappopriate things at the wrong time! Like this one time, one of the speakers, Shahnaz, was like, so do you have any questions? And he's like, YES! YOU GUYS HAVE THE SAME PASSION AS ME!

And everyone's just thinking, DUDE, THAT'S NOT A QUESTION. haha.

Oh my god, my blogging is so not consistent with what happened. haha. Ok, first started with one of the speakers, Shahnaz, who reminded me of Roslan Aziz actually. He talked a bit about advertisements and asked us to name 5 taglines, 3 of our favourite commercials and 3 of our most despised commercials. We (me, diana, miza, farisa) struggled a bit at the taglines part. Can't remember! Even the really easy ones like Sony Ericsson and stuff. I guess we're just visual people. Oh, favourites for me is Digi Yellow Men, Astro Sports Channel, and that Volvo commercial where the car changes everytime the camera changed to a different angle. Most despised - BMW ASTRO CRAP THING, KOPI JANTAN and those VMAG crap. haha.

You know, me and my friends pretty much dominated the whole shebang. I mean, honestly, I'd hate it if the situation was against me. You know, there is this other noisy group who's getting all the attention because they talk loudly? Yeah... But then again! I was really having fun and just being spontaneous. I mean, it's not our fault they didn't want to speak up. We were just grabbing the opportunity to babble. And when we don't, sometimes everything was just quiet. So, hey, workshops are supposed to be fun, right? So... Yeah, feeling a bit guilt.

Shahnaz is actually kinda a cool person. He's very relax and casual yet he knows his stuff. Kinda hot too. haha. See people? To make a workshop work, you gotta have the eyecandies! He showed some of the advertisements aired in Youtube and some of them are quite interesting. And for a minute there, my curiosity about Advertisements grew... I mean, heck the advertising work I did during Gemala days was hell ok? I swore to myself to never ever do advertising. But, 95% is being really interesting... And oh my god, girls, do you still have images of Balls in The Pants commercial?? I swear, it had to make me a good 15 minutes to erase that commercial from my brain! It's so disgusting! GARH. How about the naked guy commercial? I mean the naked guy practically thrust his naked ass on our faces! WE COULD SUE. haha.

Then came in Janet. She's the more proper teacher than Shahnaz, I guess because she gave the lowdown on what's copywriting is about. Seriously? I would've been really interested but there's something in my gut feeling that says, what's the catch? You know? Things seem to simple, like they're just fingertips away. What's the catch? Then Janet gave us a task to create headlines for this motel aimed for budget travellers.

"We are cheap, so are you!" haha. Didi is a genius.

More talking. More explaining. Honestly? At one point, I was interested. I was looking at the course schedules, wondering maybe would my mum would let me do it etc. etc. But I don't know. Advertising was never an option for me until now. And I know the job is super demanding. I am not passionate about it so why should I go for a course that may or may not serve a purpose in my life? I mean, sure it's all fun and games when we were shown the ads and commercials but I was being serious at the end. Is Advertising for me?

So, Shahnaz went on and asked, so does anybody has a question? And I though, oh screw it, let's fire away!

My friends would probably notice me suddenly getting interested and asking loads of questions but I guess I was really considering copywriting here. I really was. The good thing is that the percentage of employment for 95% students are really high - around 70 - 90% here. And the speakers has a lot of experience though the academy itself was two years plus. And we also meet the clients and get real hands-on experience.

But!

One simple question decided it for me: What is the future of Copywriting?

Simple question right? But Shahnaz couldn't answer me! Which surprised me a bit because they said they have around hundreds of students ok, so don't tell me no one actually asked him this? I believe him when he said he have hundreds of students but I'm still worried about the future part. So, that settled it. For now, Copywriting is put on the upper shelf of my life. Maybe next time.

Do you know that Shahnaz is married to Aishah Sinclair?? I DIDN'T KNOW EITHER! Until I read his blog then there's picture of him and his wife and a post about his honeymoon. Awww. How sweet. There's also Janet's. No Chris's though. Bummer. You know, I'm a bit shocked when Shahnaz casually calls Janet bitches and stuff. Don't get me wrong, he calls her that to show how cool they are about each other and stuff. But still. Farisa especially seemed kinda turned-off. haha. She actually told Shahnaz not to call Janet that! haha.

Either way, it's a good experience and you know, get to be exposed to these kinda things. At least I have an option now, eh? And I get to know more people! So, it's all good. Ooh, here's the website if anyone of you are interested in Copywriting or the academy: Passion To Write

Anyway, that's all for now! I know, I know, I still need to blog about my escapade to Lagoon, Spidey 3 movie, the day out with Azfar and Adilah and all that. Patience please! And Lagoon pics coming up real soon!!

-- Anyway, Chris had been calling me up to promote more about 95% Academy. Yes, made me real happy, to tell you the truth. heh. The first time he called me, I was actually at my grandmother's funeral. So, he was like 'Are you free to talk?' and I was like 'Uh, actually, I'm in the middle of a funeral.' and you know what! He didn't even err-ed or flinched! It's either he thought I was lying or Janet and Shahnaz had really taught him well! haha. Too bad I won't see him again. :(
