Gg Pretend Birthday Thing
We just had a 'Gg Pretend Birthday Thing' about a few hours ago. Yeah, it wasn't really her birthday today - it was days ago. But what the heck! A friends get-together is always welcomed! So, an hour before the thing started, I was trashing my cupboard since I have no idea what to wear. I mean, sure, there's a bunch of clothes but it's not THE ONE to wear for this kinda event. I know I know! I'm supposed to plan and not go crazy minutes before leaving expecially since your mum is practically screaming at you to be quick and shtuff. Peh. Whatever. I end up wearing something that is ... defect...
Arriving at the mall 15 minutes before the movie starts isn't a good idea either. Because before you know it, you're huffing like mad. Especially with a stupid 'defected' baju. So when I get to my buds, I was feeling so self-concious, you just don't know! We got in the movie and stuff. I am surprised that there is actually guys watching this! I mean it's Phantom of the Opera for crying out loud. A musical one at that! The movie, eventhough there were times when I think the songs are too long, is actually pretty good.
I'm pretty ok with this since I actually like to watch theater. But I'm positive that if it was onstage, it'll be so much better because you can actually feel the vibration from the songs they sang. I hope they come to M'sia! Anyway, since the movie is so great, it deserves a paragraph of its own :
What I love most about this movie was that it focused a lot on Erik or also known as The Phantom. He's my favourite character ever since I read the book! How can you not sympathise him?! See, I told you he's not evil, Gg! He was treated so badly to begin with. I ultimately love Christine's clothes! It's just so wow! I wish I could have it... I guess I just have to make do with Somerset Bay. What was confusing me was when the movie started, with the Prima Donna and all, were wearing some kind of exotic costumes. I thought they were French. And then I thought maybe it was something to do with Persian because of the monkey doll... But I still don't get it . And Tasnim, Raoul is SO NOT cute! I don't like long-haired guys... except Legolas that is.
But I have to say this, Erik is very suave. The way he struts his stuff, his drastic movements, his strong baritone voice - he's like a diva! Compared to Raoul, he is more macho, if you know what I mean. Too bad he's crippled and all.
You know what, from the movie, I think Christine do love him. Tasnim, don't kill me for saying this. hahhaha! At the play 'Don Juan', there was a spark between them. Their love is the passionate and fiery sort of love. On the other hand, Christine loves Raoul, too. He is her childhood sweetheart. Picnicking in attics - walking in the gardens. Here is a normal lovable man who is ready to take her heart away. Erik has too much blood on his hands. He killed too many people and done too many crimes. Who would you choose? The sweet Raoul with a happy ending waiting to happen or the fiesty Erik with an uncertain outcome? In the end, Christine will lose in either way. Her ultimatum is choose Erik or Raoul will be killed - another murder waiting in Erik's hands. Personally, I think Christine is scared of what Erik could become. Like she said, she is not afraid of his distorted face but his distorted soul.
Man... I feel like I just wrote a homework essay! Dang! Anyway, love the time when Erik brought Christine to his 'lair' for the first time and of course, the Don Juan play. The song is lovely! But the part where Christine tore off his mask in front of millions of people - NOT FORGIVEABLE! Love La Carlotta (funny as ever) and the directors (funny as ever). I have the sudden idea that Meg Giry should be with Erik since she looks very interested in him. Even when she's wrinkly and old. I like the fact that Erik still haunts Christine till her death. That me likey. Me going to read the book! Well, kudos babes.
-- Ok, I made an observation on the movie and NOT on the book. So, any Phantom of the Opera die-hard fans reading this - don't be offended. My assuming and ever-curious brain could not stop churning out theories. This is just what I think anyways.
